These types of masks are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are recommended primarily for use by professionals to create a barrier between a potential risk and the user. They may also be recommended for vulnerable groups due to medical indications.

The purpose of PPE masks is to filter the inhaled air avoiding the entry of polluting particles into our body.

Depending on its filtration efficiency, it can be of three types: FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3. For their part, those with filters against particles are divided into P1, P2 and P3.

For protection against COVID-19, the use of PPE FFP2 masks is recommended.

TYPES OF PPE MASKS


WHAT SHOULD I LOOK AT ON THE LABELING?

The CE marking, followed by 4 numbers, ensures that the product complies with the legislation.

The reference to the UNE EN-149 standard ensures compliance with a quality standard.

The NR marking indicates that the product is Non-Reusable and the R marking, that it is reusable.

The type of mask (FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3) and the filter (P1, P2 and P3).

* There are also other certifications temporarily valid during the COVID-19 crisis. These masks must be previously authorized.

HOW LONG DOES THEY LAST?

It depends on the manufacturer. Check the instructions. When you notice it wet or dirty, change it.

For reasons of comfort and hygiene, it is usually recommended not to use the mask for more than 4 hours.

In case it gets damp or deteriorates due to use, it is recommended to replace it with another one.

WHERE TO BUY?

In pharmacies, specialized establishments and large surfaces.
